Description	:	STANTON - Arden J. Gappert, 76, Stanton, passed away Jan. 1, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Friday, Jan. 5, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Stanton, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. MST Thursday, at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Arden J. Gappert was born on a farm near New Salem, Nov. 29, 1930, the son of August and Alma (Kramer) Gappert. He was raised and educated near New Salem. Arden entered the U.S. Army Oct. 19, 1951, and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. March 29, 1952, he married Eleanore Weber at Ft. Smith, Ark. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army until Aug. 17, 1953, when he received his honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant. He returned to North Dakota and eventually began operating heavy equipment for various road construction companies. Arden became employed at Consolidated Coal Company in 1974. The coal company became known as the Glenharold Mine and he retired in 1993, as an employee of Basin Electric Power Cooperative. In May of 2006, he received an honorary diploma from New Salem High School in recognition of his service to his country. Arden enjoyed hunting, fishing, long drives, walking, woodworking, gardening and driving his Harley Davidson made moped. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Operators Union Local No. 49, the American Legion and the VFW. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Eleanore; one son, Dwight Gappert, Bismarck; six daughters, Colette and Darrell Itrich, New Salem, Vonette and Ron Richter, Bismarck, Jacquolyn Hulm, Bismarck, Jodene and Jeff Coffin, Hazen, Shereen and John Erickson, Bismarck, and Sandra and Tom Schiermeister, Hazen; 17 grandchildren, Blake Itrich, Amber Itrich, Mark and Mallory Richter, Andrew Richter, Paul Richter, Jenna Richter, Alyssa Hulm, Jared Hulm, Tierra Hulm, Dustin Kautzman, Shane Kautzman, Kassidy Kautzman, Bethany Erickson, Nicholas Erickson, Brayden Erickson, Cody Borner and Aubree Schiermeister; one great-granddaughter, Jaylee Hoiby; two sisters, LaVerne Weber, New Salem, and Jean and Lyle Schulz, Mandan; two brothers, Roger and Eleanore Gappert, Stanton, and Gary and Hilda Gappert, Bismarck; two aunts, Pauline Sipes and Kathryn Woodbury, both of Idaho; and special family friends, Ted Hulm, Terry Kautzman, Sarah Mohl, Andrea Gress, Nicole Binder and Brett Hoiby.
