Read More	PARENTS: Elmer Harvey and Louise (Wobig) Rabenhorst MARRIAGE: Merlin Forney Ardis Elaine Forney, 90, a longtime resident of Leavenworth, WA, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2014, at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, WA. Ardis was born on July 9, 1924, at Canova, SD, to Elmer Harvey and Louise (Wobig) Rabenhorst. Ardis graduated from Spencer High School in 1942, and in June of 1943, went on to take an advanced course in shorthand from the Palmer Method of Business Writing, where she was awarded honors of superior ability for rapid, legible, commercial penmanship. Ardis met her future husband, Merlin Forney, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Fresno, CA, and they married on June 19, 1960. While working as a secretary full-time, she took courses at Fresno City College, graduating with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1965. Later that same year, they moved to Washington, where they lived briefly in Oroville, WA before relocating to Bellingham, WA, where they bought a hilltop home they enjoyed until Merlin's retirement. Leavenworth was chosen as their retirement destination and there they built a custom log house just off Mountain Home Road, personalized by handcrafted trims and furnishings by both Ardis and Merlin. They enjoyed their view home for over 31 years, working in the gardens, having family visit, attending church and, in 2010, celebrated 50 years of marriage with their friends and family in attendance. Medical issues necessitated the eventual sale of their home and a move to Mountain Meadows Assisted Living followed. Ardis was a member of Light In The Valley Community Church and her favorite pastimes were quilting, gardening, reading, sewing, cooking wonderful dinners, canning fruits and vegetables - and making her delicious jams! Ardis is survived by her husband, Merlin Forney of Leavenworth; step-daughters, Valerie and Karen; granddaughter, Karma; and great-grandchildren, Joshua and Julia. Ardis is survived by three nephews, Thomas, Douglas, and Daniel; and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Allen and Robert Rabenhorst. A Memorial Service of Commemoration to celebrate the life of Ardis Forney will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2014, at the Mountain Meadows Mountain Room, with Pastor John Romine officiating.
