Predeceased by her son, Ronald Clayton. Siblings: Predeceased by Leola Foss, Marion Foss, Dora Perkins, George R. Foss, Avis Sinclair, Phyllis Lynbourg, Irene Cafasso, James Foss, and Theresa Hodges. She worked at Sears, Roebuck in Rochester, N.H., for 30 years. After retirement from Sears, she continued to work part time until she was 84 for Half off Cards in the Lilac Mall in Rochester for Douglas Young. Although she grew up on Parker Mountain, Ardys became a lifelong resident of Rochester, N.H., raising five children as a single parent. She instilled a competitive spirit in her kids, as well as the need to be "your own person." She encouraged academic excellence as she viewed this as the "door of opportunity" to professional success and financial security. She loved her family regardless of personal decisions made, whether she agreed with them or not. As the family scattered throughout the country, whether to California, Nevada, Idaho, Florida or New York, she was forever eager for a phone call "from her kids." She loved to travel (not by plane) whether it was with her sister, Theresa, on tour buses to see West Point, Williamsburg or New York; or, with her eldest daughter and her family travelling to Lake Tahoe or Cocolalla, Idaho by car or train. She was 55 when her son-in-law, Mike, taught her how to drive after which she bought her first car. How she loved to drive as it gave her the independence she had never experienced before! VW Beetles were her favorite. During retirement she became best buddies with her youngest daughter's bichon frises (Bucky and Stratus) and spent a lot of cuddle time with each of them. At the age of 86, she realized her dream to reside at the Gafney Home. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's deprived her of her independence and many of her memories near the end of her life. Throughout her battle with Alzheimer's, she was aware she was losing her identity. She became more childlike as time went on. When her faculties and her physical status deteriorated, she became a resident of the Rochester Manor. While there, her days were spent living in "her reality" of her childhood on Parker Mountain in Center Strafford with her sister, Theresa, looking up at the clouds in the sky as they fantasized of the magical creatures the clouds formed. How she loved her Parker Mountain! She will be remembered for her strength, her strong will, and her stubbornness, but mostly for her love which will live with her family each day until they die. SERVICES: Calling hours will be on Friday, September 2, 11 a.m., to 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m., in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. Memorial donations: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/manh.
