Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown with Reverend Roger Spahr and Reverend Marlyn Kuper officiating. Music will be by Vicky Krucker as organist and Ken Mund as soloist. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4:00 p.m. at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at Mt. Pallbearers will be David Arnold, Dustin Arnold, Travis Arnold, Clark Uhrich, Bryce Brenden and Cole Brenden. Ardyth Ann Johnston was born October 26, 1920 at Ortonville, Minnesota to F. Lyle and Fanny (Kampen) Johnston. She attended country school Kilborn #5 in Grant County. The school house was just up the hill south of the Johnston family farm. She graduated from Milbank High School and then attended Northern Normal in Aberdeen. Ardyth was united in marriage with Theodore "Ted" Robert Arnold in the Twin Brooks United Methodist Church on April 2, 1939. They lived on a dairy farm northwest of Milbank until 1985. Five children were born to the couple. Besides farming and attending to the livestock, Ardyth was a bookkeeper for the Whetstone Valley Dairy Association for fifteen years. In 1985, they retired to Watertown, South Dakota. In her spare time, Ardyth was a 4-H Leader for 23 years while all of her children were 4-H Club members. She also held many volunteer offices at the local and state level: State 4-H Leaders Board; SD State Garden Club Vice President and State President; SD Extension Homemakers Council-State Treasurer, Safety Chairman, State President; WhetstoneValley Artists Club-President; Grant County Historical Board; SDSU Presidential Advisory Board; Heritage Federated Study Club-President; and Governor's State Safety Council Member. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Milbank and following the move to Watertown she was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Ardyth enjoyed spending time painting pictures, reading, sewing and crafts. She especially enjoyed writing stories about her family life and assembling extensive genealogy records. Ardyth is survived by her children, Kyleen (Robert) Andrews, Mark (Marilyn) Arnold, Myla (Scott) Johnson all of Watertown, SD, Richard Arnold of Dallas, TX and Debbie Eckhart of Mira Loma, CA; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Marilyn Knudson; and son-in-law, Marc Eckhart.
