Description	:	Ardyth Darlene Warnkvist Karel was born May 28, 1930, south of Gregory, SD . She was the youngest of five children in the family of Wilhelm and Emily (Lopour) Warnkvist. She spent her childhood on the farm while attending rural school. When she completed her school years Ardyth joined her two sisters in Sioux City, IA where she was employed in a battery factory. While employed in Sioux City, a young man Louie (Bud) Karel and a friend Joey Papousek brought a load of cattle to Sioux City to the stockyard. They became acquainted and later that summer they attended a street... Read More	Ardyth Darlene Warnkvist Karel was born May 28, 1930, south of Gregory, SD . She was the youngest of five children in the family of Wilhelm and Emily (Lopour) Warnkvist. She spent her childhood on the farm while attending rural school. When she completed her school years Ardyth joined her two sisters in Sioux City, IA where she was employed in a battery factory. While employed in Sioux City, a young man Louie (Bud) Karel and a friend Joey Papousek brought a load of cattle to Sioux City to the stockyard. They became acquainted and later that summer they attended a street dance on the 4th of July, 1948. At Christmas time the young man gave her a diamond ring and they were married on February 7, 1949 at Alcester, SD. Rosie and Virgil Aden were their attendants and Harlan Warnkvist drove the car. They made their first home on the Holger Cassling place 3 miles west and 2 north of Dallas, now the Kirzan place. They began farming together and in the spring of 1950 they had the opportunity to move onto the Ben Doering homestead west of them. Soon they had the opportunity to buy this farm and it became home for their entire life. On the home farm they raised their three children, became good neighbors, and had many good times socializing, playing cards, and telling jokes. Ardyth's favorite place was the kitchen but she was a great hand and help to Bud on the farm milking cows and chores. She loved canning, cooking, caring for the animals, and serving homemade recipes. No one left the table with and empty stomach. She has been battling cancer for about three months and died on October 8, 2010 at the nursing home in Winner. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, her parents and all four of her brothers and sisters. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home Gregory, SD
