On last Sunday Emil Suhr, living some eight miles south of here, went to his neighbor's, M. Stenvers, to show a new shot gun he had recently purchased, to his friend, Aaron Stenvers. The gun was not thought to be charged but while the two were examining the weapon it went off, the full charge of shot penetrating the right hand and entering Stenvers' side and into the abdomen, where it lodged. A number of the shot are thought to have perforated the intestines. Drs. Sward, of this city, and Thompson, of West Point, were called and rendered the necessary surgical assistance but did not amputate the hand and gave little encouragement to the parents for their son's recovery. The young man continued to grow weaker until yesterday at 2 o'clock at which time life took its flight. The funeral will be held at the residence on Saturday and interment in the Oldenburg cemetery, eight miles south of here. The two families are among our most respected German settlers and the sad occurrence is very much regretted by their many friends, however; no blame is attached to anyone as it was purely accidental.
