Arland was born on August 15, 1941, in Kearney, Nebraska, the younger of two boys, born to David A. and Hazel Leontine (Larson) Edgren. Arland received his primary education from the Phelps County Country School District #45, north of Holdrege, and later attended and graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1958. Arland attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year and returned to Phelps County to engage in farming with his father. On September 16, 1962, Arland was united in marriage to Joyce E. Long at the United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to a farm, north of Holdrege, where they became members of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church and were blessed with six children: Becky, Kirk, Brian, Kyle, Steven, and Kevin. The family enjoyed all the activities of camping, 4-H, and working together on the farm, but most important, was Arland's family and attending their activities. He also enjoyed coffee at the Cozy Inn Café with his neighbors. In 2006, the couple began to make their home in Holdrege. Arland enjoyed wood working and spending time with his children and grandchildren, making cradles for each one of his kids, for the grandchildren to enjoy. Arland served for many years with: the local 4-H Clubs, the Husker Chop Club, the Phelps County Fair Board, the Nebraska State Fair Board, the Phelps County Extension Board, as the Treasurer of the Center Township for many years, served on the R-6 School Board, the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church Board, on the Center Township Rural Telephone Board, and the Holdrege COOP Oil Board. Arland was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Hazel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nolan and Ruth (Leopold) Long; two brothers-in-law: Jerry Long and Jimmy Long; and a sister-in-law, Kimberly Long. Arland leaves to celebrate his life; his devoted wife of 58 years, Joyce Edgren of Holdrege; one daughter, Becky Edgren of Holdrege; five sons: Kirk Edgren and his wife, Stephanie of rural Loomis, Nebraska; Brian Edgren and his wife, Dana of Cedar Point, North Carolina; Kyle Edgren and his wife, Linda of rural Holdrege; Steven Edgren and his wife, Brandy of Holdrege; and Kevin Edgren and his wife, Jill of Grand Island, Nebraska; nineteen grandchildren: Michael Edgren and his wife, Brooke; Robert Edgren and his wife, April; Kristine Edgren; Nolan Edgren; Ashlynn Edgren; McKayla Edgren and her fiancé, Montana; Jasmine Edgren and her fiancé, Allen-Michael; Isaac Edgren; Brady Edgren; Bailey Edgren; Schyler Brundret and her husband, Dan; Colter Edgren and his wife, Stephani; Chaten Edgren; Dantley Edgren; Dashton Edgren; Breckynn Edgren; Ikaiah Edgren; Hayden Edgren; and Gabriella Edgren; one great-grandson, Jensen Edgren, along with two great-grandchildren on the way; one brother, John Edgren and his wife, Marlene of Omaha, Nebraska; four brothers-in-law: Gaylord Long and his wife, Judy of Bertrand, Nebraska; Greg Long and his wife, Jennifer of Budda, Texas; Glen Long and his wife, Kathy of Elm Creek, Nebraska; and Gary Long of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Rogene Long of New Castle, Wyoming; along with nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
