Description	:	Arleen was born on January 20, 1922 to Richard and Clara(Dellman) Hindman in Spencer, Iowa. At an early age she moved with her family to Gary, SD and then to Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and then obtained a B.A. degree in Home Economics and Chemistry from Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD. Arleen then taught school in Irene, SD from 1943-1945. On June 10, 1946 she married Parry S Nelson in Watertown, SD. Arleen taught at Dakota Wesleyan for a short time. The couple moved to Omaha, NE while Dr. Nelson went... Read More	Arleen was born on January 20, 1922 to Richard and Clara(Dellman) Hindman in Spencer, Iowa. At an early age she moved with her family to Gary, SD and then to Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and then obtained a B.A. degree in Home Economics and Chemistry from Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD. Arleen then taught school in Irene, SD from 1943-1945. On June 10, 1946 she married Parry S Nelson in Watertown, SD. Arleen taught at Dakota Wesleyan for a short time. The couple moved to Omaha, NE while Dr. Nelson went to Medical School, and then to St. Paul, MN where he did his internship. After spending two year in Europe while with the Army Medical Corps, Arleen and Parry moved back to Redfield and then Deadwood before settling in Watertown in 1960, where she raised her family. She was a memeber of the First United Methodist Church and was active in various committees. She was an advid reader and was a reading tutor for Adult Literacy. She was a past memeber of the AAUW and spent many hours of her life working with ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). She was also involved with the PTA and worked on the board at the Salvation Army. She was an armchair archaeologist. She travelled to archaeological sites in Peru, Mexico, Egypt, and Easter Island. Arleen D Nelson passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD at the age of 87. She was proceded in death by her parents, her husband Parry in 1991, her brother Glen Hindman, and her sister Lois Bierscheld. She is survived by her sons James Nelson and wife Joan of Escondido, CA, Dale Nelson and wife Rachael of Kodiak, AK, Steven Nelson and wife Angela of Arlington, SD, Keith Nelson Watertown, SD and AFS son UweKievelitz of Germany, her brother Robert Hindman of Hot Springs, AR, nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
