Arlen was born July 7, 1931, in Denver, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Clara (Hein) Milius. He was baptized July 26, 1931, and confirmed March 25, 1945, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. He attended Maxfield #6 Country School from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. He graduated from Denver High School on May 18, 1949. On April 22, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joanne Benning at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. The couple farmed from the time of their marriage until they retired in 1999. Arlen was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver where he served on the Church Council. He was active on both the Bremer Country Central Committee (8 years) and Bremer County Board of Review (17 years). Arlen was a licensed stock broker for seven years with Heartland Financial Investments. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, with trips to Virginia, Texas and Oregon to see family. He and Joanne also took trips to Branson and Alaska. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Stardusters Square Dance Club. He learned to play the guitar and steel guitar; country music was his favorite. Arlen is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Denver; special nephew and niece, Allan (Rhonda) Milius and Gloria Perry; nephews, Steven Milius and Bill (Judy) Milius; niece Pam (Steve) Salutric; four great nephews, Mark (Clara) Perry, Scott (Tily) Perry, Luke Milius, and Adam Salutric; three great nieces, Virginia Milius, Emily Salutric and Renee Griego; two great great nephews and one great great niece; one brother, Donald Milius; one sister-in-law, Darlys Milius. He is preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Eldon and Pauline Benning; brother, Edwin Milius; sister-in-law, Margory Milius; niece and nephew-in-law, Marilyn Milius and Dave Perry. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with Pastor Ron Mathews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver.
