Description	:	Arlene Dorthy Libis was born May 3, 1921, to Leo and Christina (Schick) Libis on the family farm, southwest of Eureka. She was baptized March 10, 1929 and confirmed June 23,1935 in the Lutheran faith. Arlene attended Jackson Township Rural School and, as a teenager, enjoyed spending time with her cousins and attending barn dances. She was baptized March 10, 1929 and confirmed June 23,1935 in the Lutheran faith. Arlene attended Jackson Township Rural School and, as a teenager, enjoyed spending time with her cousins and attending barn dances. After completing school, Arlene chose to stay at home and help on the farm, tending to her large flock of chickens as well as enjoying the serenity provided by the farm’s spacious garden. When Arlene was just 16, she met Edwin Aman of Roscoe, SD at a local dance. The pair soon became inseparable and were married on July 4, 1938. The newly married couple lived in Roscoe and it wasn’t long before they were blessed with a son, Bonnell Lew, born May 7 1939. They later moved to Aberdeen, where Edwin worked for K. O. Lee Company. When WWII broke out, Edwin was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving near the Hawaiian Islands on the USS Gustafson. During Edwin’s absence, Arlene and Bonnell returned to live with her parents near Eureka. After Edwin’s discharge, the pair took advantage of the numerous farming opportunities in the Hosmer and Eureka areas, and the family soon grew to include daughter, Pattie Lou, who was born December 29 1951. The family thrived as small grain farmers until Edwin’s untimely passing on November 2, 1979. Shortly thereafter, Arlene moved into Eureka where she resided the rest of her life. Arlene was employed at the Coast to Coast Store in Eureka for several years. Arlene was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Eureka Legion Auxiliary. A skilled seamstress, Arlene was also known for her delicious German-Russian cooking. She also enjoyed filling her home with Owl keepsakes, reading, word puzzles and watching TV. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother and loved sharing stories of her early years with them. She was able to remain in her home and live independently until May 2019, when she became a resident at Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. In addition to Edwin, Arlene was preceded in death by her father, Leo, on January 20, 1965; her mother, Christina, on May 21, 1989; and two brothers (Edward and Bruno).
