She was born May 4, 1928, in Creighton to William and Erna (Zimmer) Hilkemeier. She grew up in Foster. She was a 1946 graduate of Plainview High School. She taught at rural schools in the Pierce County area for two years. Arlene operated a cafe in Foster, where she lived until moving to Mead in 1952. She moved to Fremont in 1958. She was employed at the former Campbell Soup Co. in Fremont for 34 years. She retired in 1990 as a supervisor in quality control. Arlene Hilkemeier married Harry Blank on June 22, 1947, in Foster. Harry died Sept. 30, 1977. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont, Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 Auxiliary and a former member of the Eagles React and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 Auxiliary, all at Fremont. She belonged to several card clubs and birthday clubs. Arlene enjoyed gardening, cooking and being with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Pat Blank of Fremont; a daughter, Cheryl Kroenke of Omaha; son-in-law, Bill Ahl of Fremont; sister and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Vic Zechmann and Everett Flesner, all of Norfolk; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna Ahl; and two sisters, Beverly Flesner and Jeanette Wendt. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the family.
