Description	:	MADISON - Arlene M. Hilton, 102, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her home in Madison. She was the daughter of Carl P. and Gertrude (Clark) Jones. Born in South Solon on Dec 12, 1910, the family moved to Norridgewock when she was a small child. Arlene graduated from Eaton High School with the class of 1929. She then attended and graduated Farmington Normal School, and went on to teaching kindergarten through grade 12 at the Quimby School, a one-room school in Norridgewock, for several years. She had worked at the Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent... Read More	MADISON - Arlene M. Hilton, 102, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her home in Madison. She was the daughter of Carl P. and Gertrude (Clark) Jones. Born in South Solon on Dec 12, 1910, the family moved to Norridgewock when she was a small child. Arlene graduated from Eaton High School with the class of 1929. She then attended and graduated Farmington Normal School, and went on to teaching kindergarten through grade 12 at the Quimby School, a one-room school in Norridgewock, for several years. She had worked at the Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent store, and she was also a switchboard telephone operator at Somerset Telephone Co. for many years while raising her family. She moved with her family to Madison in 1954. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of The Rebakahs, a member of the United Baptist Church of Madison, Philathea, and a life member of the Somerset County Extension. She loved doing all kinds of crafts, including knitting, crocheting, sewing, ceramics, pine needling, jewelry making and many others. In June 2011, she received the Boston Post Cane as the oldest person living in Madison. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Hilton; a son, Willard Wheeler; three brothers, Percy, Ralph and Cecil Jones; two sisters who died as young children, Irene and Goldie; also three great-grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia Curtis and friend Charles Bagley, of Harmony, Irene Wagner and her husband, Lauriston, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mary Ellen Clark, of Madison; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Interment will take place later in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. (Morning Sentinel 1/7/2013)
