Pastor Michael Awe will officiate with burial in the Wisner Cemetery in Wisner, NE. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Mrs. Means died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Arlene Ruth Means, the youngest child of Selma (Breitkreutz) and Otto Glaubius was born on September 9, 1921 in Wisner, NE. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ Lutheran Church there and graduated from Wisner High School in 1938. Arlene was married to Harold Means in Christ Lutheran Church on November 2, 1939 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. They lived in Wisner, Meadow Grove, Oakdale and Tilden and raised seven children. When living in Tilden, which was her home from 1957 to 2007, Arlene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the TAO Club in which she served her community in many ways, such as tending to the flower gardens at the gazebo and a nearby park. She worked in the local grocery stores as a checker after her youngest child started school until her retirement. Arlene enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, rummage sales, baking, canning, crafting, refinishing furniture, visiting and going fishing. She saw to it that each grandchild got to go fishing with her at least once every summer for as many years as she was able. She also enjoyed going with her fishing buddies in the area. The Tilden Hospital (swing-bed unit) had been Arlene's home for over a year and a half before she moved to St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk. Those who cared for her were dear to her heart. She was a beautiful, gracious lady. Arlene passed on to be with her Lord on April 20, 2008 at the Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE She leaves "to rejoice in her life" her seven children and their spouses: Shirley and Lloyd Frowick of Norfolk and children Kevin and Michele Schulze, Kyle and Tyler, and Rita and Andrew Klug, Nicholas, Justin and Katie; Sharon Burmester of Norfolk and children Rhonda and Dan Brachle, Adam and Heidi Brachle and Novia, and Jennifer and Kyle Strandquist, Shelly and Michael Stack, Michaela and Joeffry, and Marsha Nelson (Grandpa and Grandma's special care-giver); Carolyn and Mel Hunke of Lenexa, KS and children Christopher and Mindy Hunke and Katelyn, and Gregory Hunke; Clyde and Linda Means of Norfolk and children Cheryl and David Howard, Colin and Hailey, Jeffery and Angie Means, Megan and Carson, and Steven Means; Bob and Marilyn Means of Denison, Iowa and children Camron and Lori Means, Brittney and Brandon, and Leshara and David Shields; Beverly and Dick Schmidt of Norfolk and children Nikki Schmidt, Paige and Tanner, Todd and Amy Schmidt, Maddee and Lillee, and Chandler Schmidt; Roger Means of Lincoln and children Ryan Means and Kyle and Leslie Means; and many step-grandchildren and their families. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Violet Green, Etta Halsey, Delores Swenson, Edna Means, Margaret Means, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, an infant son, Billy, an infant grandson, an infant great-grandson, Jace Means, three sisters, Evelyn Schutt, Bernice Vollmer, and Dorothy Jensen, two sons-in-law, Darrell Schulze and Hans Burmester, and her husband, Harold, who died June 6, 2005.
