Arlon Andrew Nessa was born on August 3, 1919 above the hardware store in Garden City, Iowa. He was one of five children born to Nels and Anna (Harestad) Nessa. Arlon Andrew Nessa was born on August 3, 1919 above the hardware store in Garden City, Iowa. He was one of five children born to Nels and Anna (Harestad) Nessa. Arlon received his education at the schoolhouse in Garden City and graduated high school in Radcliffe, Iowa. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served overseas for three years without ever having an opportunity for furlough. On October 12, 1946, Arlon was united in marriage to Celia Lunning at Grace Evangelical Church in Story City. They farmed east of Garden City, Iowa all of their lives and moved into Hubbard in 1977. Arlon enjoyed playing baseball and then softball. His true passion was raising and training Quarter Horses. He was an avid reader. Arlon was supportive in attending any and all functions involving his children and grandchildren. They travelled to Arizona every winter for many years where Arlon played slow pitch softball. Arlon was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #4 in Hubbard, Iowa. Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife Celia of Hubbard, Iowa; three daughters Sharon (Bill) Formanek of Des Moines, Iowa, Annie (Stan Willie) Nessa of Denver, Colorado, Kathie (Amos Cooper) Nessa of Des Moines, Iowa; one son Mike (Connie) Nessa of Hubbard, Iowa; six grandchildren Craig, Tony and Cory Quist, T. J. Harris, Travis Nessa and Shannon Skartvedt; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister Olive Herbrechtsmeier of McCallsburg, Iowa; one brother Delmer “Duke” Nessa of Garden City, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends. Arlon was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Meline and Norman “Mick” Nessa and an infant sister Anna Margaret.
