Mr. Handy was 54. He had been briefly ill. The funeral will be at 2 P.M. Monday at St. Barnabas church with the Rev. George H. Elliot, rector of Church of the Messiah, officiating. Born in Falmouth Sept. 28, 1893, Mr. Handy was son of Ellsworth C. and Mary Sullivan Handy. After graduation from Lawrence high school he studied music and organized an orchestra, which he led for some time. He worked for six years as a plumber with the late Austin F. Lawrence, and then entered employ of the A & P stores. Working with that concern he lived for eight years in South Yarmouth and Wareham. In 1926, Mr. Handy returned to Falmouth and joined the staff of the Falmouth post office as a regular substitute clerk, under postmaster George W. Jones. The following year he was named regular clerk under Mr. Lockhart. Since July 1, 1936, he has been assistant postmaster. The marriage of the former Miss Elizabeth Howell Taylor to Mr. Handy took place June 24, 1917. Mrs. Handy died in 1937. Mr. Handy was at one time organist at St. Barnabas Memorial church and at the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole. He was a member of Marine Lodge, A. F. & A. M., the Falmouth Rod and Gun club, the Succannessett club, and was a past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias in Dennis. He leaves one son, Edward E. Handy of Shore street, and two aunts, Mrs. Catherine Whitcomb of Boston and Mrs. Eleanor B. Hamblin of Falmouth. Falmouth Enterprise, Friday, April 23, 1948; Page: 15 Post Office Flag Flown At Half Mast For Handy Burial services were held at St. Barnabas Memorial church Monday for Arlton Louis Handy, Falmouth assistant postmaster, who died April 16 at Tobey hospital. Rev. George H. Elliot, rector of Church of the Messiah officiated and pallbearers were: Thomas A. Eastman, Oscar H. Lefevre, Hollis F. Wright and W. Harry Hauston. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Friday afternoon the post office flag was flown at half mast for Mr. Handy who had been a member of the postal staff for 22 years and assistant postmaster for 12 years.
