Description	:	From the Mount Funeral Home Armand Sluiter was born on June 17, 1929 to Adrian and Johanna Sluiter, who resided on a farm near Platte, SD. Armand attended country school until the eighth grade when he enrolled in the Platte School. Armand graduated from high school in 1947 and worked with his father on the farm. Read More	From the Mount Funeral Home Armand Sluiter was born on June 17, 1929 to Adrian and Johanna Sluiter, who resided on a farm near Platte, SD. Armand attended country school until the eighth grade when he enrolled in the Platte School. Armand graduated from high school in 1947 and worked with his father on the farm. In May of 1951, Armand married Patricia Heyder in the Presbyterian Church in Platte, SD. Armand joined the U.S. Marine Corps in September of 1951 and was stationed in California. Pat joined him there in December of that year. They lived in Oceanside, CA until his discharge in September of 1953. The couple returned to Platte for a short time and then returned to California where Armand was employed by a B.F. Goodrich store. They moved back to Platte in 1955. In 1956 Armand went to work for the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation where he was employed until he retired in 1991. Armand and Pat lived in Platte, SD until May of 2013 when they moved to Plano, TX and moved into Sunrise Senior Living. Armand was a member of the Olive Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, having become a member in 1951. He was active in the Church and served as Elder and Financial Secretary. He joined the South Dakota National Guard in 1956 and retired from the Guard, after serving 26 years. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the school board for six years Armand was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Johanna Sluiter; two brothers: Floyd Sluiter of Capitola, CA and Jack Sluiter of Baltic, SD; and twin Woehl grandsons.
