Read More	Life Story of Armella Monahan Portsmouth - Armella Catherine Monahan, daughter of Bill and Louise Horn Gubbels, was born on a farm south of Panama in Shelby county, on June 3, 1912. She died at Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan, on Jan 10, 1977 at age 64 years, 7 months and 7 days. She was baptized and confirmed at St Mary's Catholic church in Portsmouth. She attended St Mary's school in Portsmouth and grew to adulthood on her parents' farm. On Nov 17, 1936, she married Cyril Monahan at St Peter and Paul's church in Atlantic. Two sons were born to this union. After their marriage, Mr and Mrs Monahan made their home in Portsmouth. This has been her home since that time. Mrs Monahan was a life time member of St Mary's church in Portsmouth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers - Herbert, Lawrence and Leo Gubbels. Her survivors include her husband, Cyril, of Portsmouth; two sons - Neil and Kenneth, both of Portsmouth and eight grandchildren; two brothers - Gregory and Victor Gubbels, both of Atlantic; four sisters - Helen (Mrs Isadore Schwery) of Panama, Eleanor (Mrs Bernard Schmitz) of Westphalia; Sidonia Gubbels of Atlantic, and Frances (Mrs Henry Heller) of Portsmouth; nieces and nephews and other relatives. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Mary's church in Portsmouth on Thursday, Jan 13, 1977, with Rev Paul Monahan as celebrant, Rev Edward R Kelly as homilist and Rev Donald Bruck as concelebrant.
