She had been a resident for 65 years and was 82 years, 9 months, and 26 days old. Arminda Elma Gifford was born in Rockville, Parke County, Indiana, on March 11, 1861, the daughter of David Gifford and Margaret Simmons Gifford. She grew to womanhood in Indiana. When her parents decided in 1878 to seek a new home in the state of Kansas, she came with them to the Prairie Center neighborhood, north of Burlingame where they located on a farm which still belongs to a member of the Gifford family. She was one of a large family of children, 7 brothers, Wallace, Alexander, Theodore, John, Richard, William, and David Raymond; and 5 sisters, Hester, Mary Ann, Rebecca, Phoebe, and Margaret, most of whom were also residents of Kansas. She was married on Sept. 1, 1879, to George Edmondson, also of Indiana, who came to Kansas to make his home. They lived in the community of Prairie Center and Harveyville for many years until the death of her husband in 1936. Not long after that, they moved to Burlingame where she had since made her home. Much suffering had been her lot, but she endured it with patience and fortitude. In her early years, she became a member of the Methodist Church and was always ready to do her part. She is survived by one brother, David R. Gifford, of the Sharon neighborhood and one sister, Margaret Gifford, of Terre Haute, Ind., and also by many nieces and nephews in Burlingame and in Indiana, as well as many friends. Services were held on Sunday at 2 o’clock at Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Brown. Burial was in Prairie Center Cemetery. Relatives here were Mr. and Mrs Dee Zeigler and daughter Rosa B. Shipley, and Mr. and Mrs. May Mellring, Topeka.
