His father died when he was but two years of age, and in accordance with his mother's desire, he spent his life with her, with the exception of two years he passed in Iowa. Read More	"The News-Herald" Hillsboro, Ohio, March 10, 1898, Page 8, Image 8 Armona H., son of William and Lydia Smith, was born near Oakland, Clinton County, Ohio October 15th, 1876, and died at the home of his mother in Highland County February 27th, 1898. His father died when he was but two years of age, and in accordance with his mother's desire, he spent his life with her, with the exception of two years he passed in Iowa. He attended the New Lexington High School two terms, and was an industrious attentive student, taking great interest in the sciences and was loved by both teacher and schoolmates. About one year ago his health began to fail but he said very little about his affliction. His friends did not realize until the last few weeks how near he was to the end of life's journey. Although he had lived an exemplary, moral life, yet he felt in his hours of affliction the need of Christ as his personal friend. He was soundly converted and the last two weeks were the happiest of his life. He constantly talked of Jesus and His love, and his heart was filled with praise and rejoicing. He had no desire to recover and felt that "to die was gain." In his death the mother has lost a loving and obedient son, the sister and brother, an affectionate brother, his associates, a true friend. At his request the funeral sermon was preached by his former teacher, Rev. D. S. Ferguson, at the New Lexington M. E. Church and his body laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
