Description	:	Arnold "Arne" Severson, age 86, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Canton Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 at Canton United Methodist Church, with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery near Canton. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present to greet visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Arne was born October 9, 1921 in Klondike, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Thelma (Ugland) Severson. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present to greet visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Arne was born October 9, 1921 in Klondike, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Thelma (Ugland) Severson. He attended York Country School north of Canton. Arne worked on his father's farm and for several farmers in the area prior to entering the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre in the Philippines and took part in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa. Arnold was united in marriage to Helen Van Bockern April 20, 1946 at Canton Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed near Canton and raised three children. When Arne retired in 1990, they moved to Canton. Arne was a member of Canton United Methodist Church and a life member of the V.F.W. He was a former member of Lands Lutheran Church of rural Hudson, SD, served on the Highland Center school board, and was a board member of Farmers Coop. Grateful for having shared his life are: his wife of 62 years, Helen; son, Tony of Marshall, MN; daughter, Carol (Darryl) Nelson of Canton, SD; 7 grandchildren- Lance, Anje, Jamie, Justin, Lindsey, Jace, and Kyle; 7 great-grandchildren- Ty, Anthony, Kaylee, Kolten, Beau, Madalyn, and Gracie; two brothers- Don (Gladys) of Sioux Falls, SD and Dale (Delores) of Harrisburg, SD; and two sisters- Lois (Lornie) Weisenbach of Sioux Falls, SD and Theola Parke of Goose Creek, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Verlyn, one brother, Sylvester, and two sisters- Eleanor and Arlys.
