Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Jon Cooke officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Centerville, South Dakota with military honors provided by the Frank Holcombe Post 43 in Centerville. Arnold "Arnie" Hansen was born February 9, 1926, in Viborg, South Dakota, to Lorens and Carrie (Peterson) Hansen. He grew up on the farm in the Viborg area. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served his country during World War II until his discharge in 1946. He married Lois Thomas on June 18, 1949, in Luverne, Minnesota. After their marriage, Arnie farmed for a while until moving to Yankton in the mid 1950's. He worked for the Human Services Center in Yankton for many years and then for the Yankton Public Schools as a custodian until retiring in 1988. After his retirement Arnie stayed busy helping Jim Holy dig and fill graves all over the Yankton area. Arnie enjoyed fishing, watching the Price is Right and Westerns on TV, telling jokes, playing Santa at Christmas, and being outdoors working in his yard. Arnie loved watching and spending time with his grandchildren and especially loved his beard. Survivors include his four children: Jerry (Annette) Hansen of Canton, South Dakota; David Hansen of Hudson, South Dakota; Terry Hansen of Mitchell, South Dakota; and Mark (Carla) Hansen of Yankton; two grandchildren: Cassandra Hansen of Yankton and Jesse Hansen of Yankton; sister, Erma Disbrow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois on November 12, 1972; two sisters: Alma Hall and Mae Falk; and four brothers: Laverne, Keith, Lindy and Lester Hansen.
