Johannsen, 80 WALNUT — Arnold Christian Johannsen, son of Christian and Pauline Namanny Johannsen, was born April 19, 1907, in Monroe Twp., Shelby county. He attended school at Jackson No. 9. He worked as a farm hand until his marriage to Maxine Koos on June 13, 1934, at the Marx Koos home south of Walnut. He had worked for 20 years for the A.S.C.S. office. He was baptized and confirmed member of Peace United Church of Christ, where he had served on the church board. He was a 30 year member of the Rebekah Lodge, 40 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and member of the Mt. Sinai Encampment. He was a Monroe Standbys 4-H Club leader and a long time member of the Corley Community Club. He lived at their farm in Monroe Twp. until becoming a resident of the Baptist Home in Harlan in Aug. of 1985, where he died Dec. 28, 1987 at age 80 years, 8 months and 9 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Tamara Johannsen and brother, Herman. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Stanley and Darryl all of Harlan; two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. John) Eilts of Grand Island, NE and Marlene (Mrs. Edward) Marshall of Omaha; two brothers, Bruno of Mesa, AZ and Norman of Walnut and sister, Martha Clausen of Harlan. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren,three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were Dec. 30, 1987 at the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut with Rev. Michelle Scott and Rev.Wayne Selzer officiating. Burial was in the Walnut cemetery with Ward Koos, Larry Manz, Robert Glenn, Gaylord Doonan, Galen Johannsen and Lowell Anderson serving as casket bearers.
