He had been ill a short time prior to his death. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon in the Wright Funeral home with Rev. Wilfred Henning officiating. Organist was Mrs. Harold Burdick with Harold Widner soloist singing "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The End of a Perfect Day." He was born October 29, 1880, at Washington Isle, Wisconsin, the son of Frank and Cora Francis. After the death of his mother, his father found it necessary to place his four children in foster homes. Arnold Francis was placed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson of Fremont. He attended school there, received Christian training and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. August 30, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Rieck at Primrose. To this union one daughter, Grace, was born. In 1912 the family moved to Hershey where they made their home for many years. They moved to Lewellen in 1940 so Mrs. Francis could care for her invalid parents. In August of 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Francis celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Open house was held in their honor with many coming from a distance to help celebrate the occasion. At the time of death Mr. Francis was 81 years 5 months and 6 days old. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and survivors include his wife Emma; one daughter Mrs. Grace Niederer of Rock Springs, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Kathie, Karen and Arlo Francis Niederer, one niece; one nephew; and other relatives and friends. Wright Funeral home had charge of final rites with burial in Ash Hollow cemetery. Pallbears were William Dettman, Ed Dettman, Herbert Dettman, Virgil Hughes, Leo Winterer and Howard Spoeneman.
