Arnold Gene Irwin was born June 29, 1945, in Davenport, the son of Walter and Pearl (Ehlert) Irwin. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1963. He then graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1967. He married Cindy Lee Strickland on June 23, 1984. He was employed with Mid-American for many years, until his retirement. He was a loving son and brother, a devoted father and beloved husband. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, a voracious reader, a Hawkeye fan, a biker and car buff. Arnold had a servant's heart, giving much and expecting little. For 40 years he joined with others doing church and community service. Above all, he was a gentle man and child of God. Surviving are his wife, Cindy; one son, Sam (Crystal) Irwin of Davenport; one grandson, Austin Irwin; one step-son, Shaun Strickland of Littleton, CO; his mother, Pearl Irwin of Davenport; two brothers, Marvin (Carol) Irwin of Tipton and Donald (Sharon) Irwin of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers at Davenport Lutheran Home who have been Arnold's extended family for the past four years.
