Description	:	Arnold L. "Arnie" Prather, son of Archie M. and Amy (Dahl) Prather was born August 27, 1930 at the family home in Wausa, NE. Arnold died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond. Arnold attended Wausa Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. On January 8, 1953, he was married to Betty L. Arnold died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond. Arnold attended Wausa Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. On January 8, 1953, he was married to Betty L. Swanson at the Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. Four children were born to this union: Pamela, Katherine, Constance, and Donna. Arnie was confirmed in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa. He was a member of Thabor Lutheran Church, having served many times on the church council. In 1948, Arnie enlisted in the Navy, at which time he was baptized. He served two years in the Pacific on a rescue ship with ports of call including Japan, Okinawa, Pearl Harbor, Philippines, Hong Kong, and China. Arnie served the next two years on the east coast in the city of New London, Connecticut, working an office job on the base. He was honorably discharged from the service in September of 1952. Arnie returned to Wausa and joined the construction crew of J. Arnold Anderson. He worked for J. Arnold from 1952 to 1969, at which time he started his own business, Prather Construction. Arnie sold his business to Kim Erickson and worked for him from 1992-1998 at which time, Arnie retired. During his construction years Arnie built such structures as the original rhino barn and visitors center at Ashfall Fossil State Park, the Catholic Church in Clearwater, and the baptismal font and pastor's chair at Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. He miraculously survived the 1975 Magnet, Nebraska tornado while working, hanging onto water pipes for its destructive duration. Arnold also served on the Village Board of Wausa, was a member of Wausa Community Club, and the American Legion. Arnie was preceded in death by: parents, Archie and Amy Prather; brothers, John Prather and Ralph Prather and sister, Janet Ida Holmquist. Funeral services for Arnold L. Prather, were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Thabor Lutheran Church, Wausa, Nebraska. Pastor Michelle Oetken as officiator, with burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Wausa, Nebraska. Military Honors were conducted by VFW Post #5824 of Wausa, Nebraska.
