Death was due to suffocation, it was indicated by Coroner Paul Thompson, of Brookston, who investigated the case. The fire was discovered at 1:20 o'clock Monday morning by Lee Capper, a neighbor, who was returning from work at the aluminum company in Lafayette. Capper saw the flames through the window and pushed open the door, but the fire had made too much progress for him to enter the building. The local fire department was called and the blaze was extinguished. Firemen and Lawrence Kraud, local policeman, found the body in the southwest corner bedroom of the five-room, one-story home. The victim was lying face downward on the bed, and he was fully dressed. The cause of the fire is not known. The blaze is believed to have started on the east side of the home, either in the kitchen or the living room. Anweiler resided with his mother, Mrs Edna Anweiler. Mrs Anweiler had been spending nights with her mother, Mrs Harriet Sheidler, 87, who resides across the street, since the aged lady was hurt in a fall recently. Born on January 22, 1920, in Monticello, Arnold Anweiler was the son of John and Edna Anweiler. His father preceded him in death several years ago. He was a graduate of Monticello High School and served with the Army Air Corps for three years. During that time he made 34 missions with the Seventh Bomber Command in the European theater. He was discharged in 1945. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to Monticello and was employed at the Shell Welding shop which is operated by his half brother, John Shell. He was a member of the American Legion. Surviving are the mother, half brother, and the grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Prevo funeral home with Rev Herman Dirks, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Monticello cemetery. The American Legion will assist at the rites.
