Description	:	Valley City Times-Record (ND) - November 23, 2009 Arnold Dilts, age 69, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at his residence under Hospice of the Red River Valley Care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 23rd at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City with Reverend Randy Schlecht officiating. Arnold Roy "Lad" Dilts, the son of Arnold and Alice (Becker) Dilts, was born June 21, 1940 in Jamestown, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wimbledon, ND. He attended Pierce School in Pierce Township and graduated from Leal High School, Leal ND, in 1958. After graduation, he attended auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966. Arnold married Betty Mickelson in August, 1962. They lived and farmed in the Wimbledon ND area for several years. He married Mavis Eggermont on June 30, 1978 in Valley City, ND. They enjoyed 31 year together. He was employed by Tri-W-G for several years. He was maintenance director for the Valley City Public School for over 19 years. He retired in June of 2000. Arnold was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Valley City. He was a choir member for over 26 years. He was a faithful servant to his church. He found great joy in serving his Lord. Arnold loved to fly, ride motorcycle, hunt deer and fish. He loved to go to garage sales and was always bringing home some kind of treasure. He was a man of many talents. He had a singing message service called Grampa's Messages. He loved being Santa for his grandchildren and for many neighborhood children. He was great to write poems and short stories for his wife and friends. He planned a reenactment of his first date with Mavis. This ended up in the Woman's World Magazine. He loved to work out in his shop. He restored an Allis Chalmers tractor which he enjoyed driving in many parades. He was a plumber, electrician, welder and general fixerupper. His most recent hobbies included cooking and making jams and jellies. Arnold was a kind and loving man. His wife and family meant everything to him. A stranger was only a stranger once to him. He had a remarkable memory and sense of humor. Arnold is survived by his wife, Mavis; a son, Roy of Valley City; a daughter, Tina of Gillette, Wyo.; four grandchildren Tressa Esterbrook, Tristen Esterbrook, Daltin Dilts all of Gillette, Wyo., Nickolas Dilts, Valley City; one sister, Linda Olson of Valley City; and one first cousin, Roleen Ussatis Richards of Wimbledon; three godchildren:Greg Anderson of West Fargo, N. D., Ronda Maland of Valley City and Alissa Erickson of Fargo, N. D., and many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and one sister.
