Description	:	Arnold Straatmeyer ws born on a farm north of Chancellor, SD, on Sep. 29, 1911. He was raised as the son of Jacob and Rachel (Dirksen) Straatmeyer. He attended Goldenrod School and grew to manhood north of Lennox. On Mar. 23, 1937 he was united in marriage to Alice Fischer at the Turner County First Presbyterian Church manse, rural Davis, SD. He attended Goldenrod School and grew to manhood north of Lennox. On Mar. 23, 1937 he was united in marriage to Alice Fischer at the Turner County First Presbyterian Church manse, rural Davis, SD. Following their marriage they lived north of Lennox until 1952 when they moved to Lennox. He was employed in the freezer department at John Morrell & Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1973. His death ended a marriage partnership of over 54 years. Arnold faithfully attended Lennnox ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lennox. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Alwyn Straatmeyer, on Sep. 14, 1989, and four sisters: Gertie Javers, Hattie Schoffelman, Jurina Schoffelman and Marie Otten. Following a lengthy illness and recent hospitalization, Arnold died at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1991. He attained the age of 80 years, one month and 20 days. Grateful for having shared his life are his wido, Alice; one son and his wife, Arvid and Shari Straatmeyer of Lennox; one daughter and her husband, Ardell and Dale Hill of Pinedale, WY; his daughter-in-law, Lori Straatmeyer of Yankton, SD; nine grandchildren: Brent Straatmeyer, Brenda Mayfield, Randy Straatmeyer, Delare, Darin and Jennifer Hill, Jerami, Rayse and Shannon Straatmeyer; nine great-grandchildren: Whieney and Derick Straatmeyer, Colt, Brodie and Kiley Mayfield; Ashley and Nicole Straatmeyer and Amber and Justin Hill; one brother, Reinder J. Straatmeyer of Lennox; two sisters: Tilda Straatmeyer and Bena Schoffelman, both of Lennox, plus several other relatives and friends.
