He was born on April 1, 1927 in rural Houghton, Iowa to Bernard G. and Elizabeth M. Bentler Menke. On June 24, 1950 he married LaVerne Pollmeier in Fort Madison. Arnold owned and operated Menke Construction since 1966. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Knights of Columbus and the Elks. Arnold enjoyed hunting, making wine and Sherry. (Debbie) Menke of Lake St. Louis, MO; 10 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence (Eleanor) Menke of West Point, IA, Cecil (Luella) Menke of Carroll, IA and Marvin (Rita) Menke of St. Paul, IA; three sisters, Benita (D.F.) Coons of Fort Madison, Edna Spiekermeier of Fort Madison and Marilyn (Ray) Watznauer of West Point, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cecilia. The funeral mass was on Friday, Sept. 13, at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. David Wilkening officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial was established for Holy Family Parish and Lee County Hospice.
