He was born February 11, 1921 at Pittsburg, to Ernest and Gesina Mulvane (Grotheer) Schultze. He attended rural schools and his early years were spent on the family farm. Schultze, 90, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Via Christi Village. He was born February 11, 1921 at Pittsburg, to Ernest and Gesina Mulvane (Grotheer) Schultze. He attended rural schools and his early years were spent on the family farm. He moved to California and while there he worked for a Chevrolet dealership as a mechanic. He then served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945 in the 892nd Ordinance Co. On January 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Virginia Maxine Daugherty at St. John Lutheran Church in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death July 28, 2010. Mr. Schultze opened Schultze Motor Company, while operating the motor company he taught at Kansas State Teachers College now Pittsburg State University. He later went to work for Spencer Chemical Company (later Gulf Oil and Chevron Oil Company) retiring in 1983. In 1958 Arnold and Maxine moved to a farm southeast of Pittsburg. Arnold loved farming and "fixing" things. He had an amazing ability to fix anything, from small appliances to large farm machinery. He loved to garden and was always generous with its bounty. Membership was held in St. John Lutheran Church, Pittsburg Masonic Lodge #187, where he was a member for over 50 years, and the American Legion. Survivors include a son, Robert E. "Bob" Schultze and his wife, Lyn of Pittsburg; a daughter, Connie Largess and husband Paul of Tulsa, OK; and two grandchildren, Jessina and Sylvia Schultze. He was preceded in death by his wife, and two sisters, Hilma Harry and Rosalyn Harry. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday ( February 2) at the St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Wehrman officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 will provide graveside military rites. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary to sign the register. The family suggests memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or St. John Lutheran Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
