He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas O. and Eunice Norwood Hobbs; his wives, Lillie Bowen Hobbs and Janet Mitchell Hobbs; five brothers, three sisters and his son-in-law, Charles D. Taylor, Jr. He is survived by his brother, Jessie; daughters, Diane Taylor, Kathy Rooker (Ray), and Debbie Hobbs (Veno); stepdaughter, Belinda Mitchell; grandchildren, Christy Moore (Andy), Kim Swenson (Scott), Bryan Rooker (Nicole), Chris Aquila (Michele); great-grandchildren, A.J., Harley and Henry Moore, Cailey Rooker, Avery Drew and Addison Swenson and Amber and Anna Aquila. He was a devoted Christian and active member of Fountain Creek Baptist Church. He retired from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative and was a World War II Army veteran. A funeral service, led by The Rev. David McNew, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Fountain Creek Baptist Church followed by interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Rooker, Andy Moore, Scott Swenson, A.J. Moore, Neal Allen, Henry Moore and Lorn Allen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fountain Creek Baptist Church, 8099 Brink Road, Emporia, VA 23847. Owen Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
