She was born May 18, 1922, in Laird, Colorado to Arthur A. and Gladys Pearl (Lovell) Hanshaw. In 1936, she and her family moved to Parks, Nebraska. "Irene" Roose, 88, Independence, Kansas, formerly of Benkelman, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2011), at the Mercy Hospital in Independence. She was born May 18, 1922, in Laird, Colorado to Arthur A. and Gladys Pearl (Lovell) Hanshaw. In 1936, she and her family moved to Parks, Nebraska. She graduated from Parks High School in May of 1941. On Dec. 8, 1942, she married Gerald J. Plucker and the couple later divorced. She was a nurse in Benkelman, Nebraska at Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in 1958. From 1960-63, she worked for Benkelman Hospital. In 1963, she worked at the McCook Hospital for one year. From 1964-67, she worked for the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She then worked at the Ogallala Nebraska Nursing Home from 1967-71. She then worked until her retirement in 1982 at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska. She went to North Platte, Nebraska for college and received her LPN in 1976. She married Ernest Roose and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1992. In 2002, she moved to Havana, Kansas, to be with her daughter due to health reasons. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Caney, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters. She is survived by four children Gerald D. Plucker of Blandon, Pennsylvania, Alvin H. Plucker of LaSalle, Colorado, Shirley R. Filsinger of Sarcoxie, Missouri, and Penny J. Parker of Havana, Kansas; one sister, Mary Louise Robens of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren. Funeral services are Monday, 10 a.m. MST, at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman with the Rev. Steve Butler officiating. Burial will follow services in the Benkelman Cemetery. Visitation is today until 5 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the family receiving friends from 3-5 p.m. CST. The casket will be open at the chapel prior to services. Memorials may be given in his name. Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman is in charge of the local arrangements."
