Arthur Boots family removed around 1938-'39 to Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri from Independence, Montgomery county, Kansas, when the United States was at the ending of a major depression. Many other men roamed the countryside, looking for work, but "Art" was a cautious man. First, in Carthage he built a gas station, the 18’x11’ office at the front of the front building. He put in two gas pumps, just in case his motor court plans did not work out. He called his gas station the "Red Horse". Then, he built the first four rooms just behind the gas station of their Boots Court, renting at $2.50 per night, a place which at least once had Clark Cable, Gene Autry & Mickey Mantle as guests to name but three, on west side of The Jefferson Highway located at 107 south Garrison avenue, known as the "Crossroads of America", that portion of "The Mother Road", Route 66, once sharing Garrison avenue, south of Central avenue, for the four city blocks, to Oak street from 1926 until realignment in the late 1950s. It is noted herein that Arthur's younger brother, Loyd A Boots, had in 1930 built the first motel, "Boots Cottage Court", at the Bagnell dam site of Eldon, Miller county, Missouri on U S highway #54, the dam, being under construction from August 1929 till completion, April 1931, which was sold in 1947 to the Randle's who then renamed it. Some years later, after the end of World War II, in 1946 following "Bob"'s honorable discharged from the United States Army Air Force, "Art" & son "Bob" built the Boots Drive-In & Gift Shop across Garrison avenue, on northeast corner Second street, 126 south Garrison avenue, in block north of where the Englishman, Wm L Preston had earlier operated his two story Hollywood Cafe. "Art", as president, son "Bob", vice-president and brother-in-law, C Jude Arney secretary-treasurer, at which. Bob's mother, Ilda, (who was separated from Arthur in 1941) was once the cashier. "Bob", wrote he regreted his father guiding him to later own & operate it for fourteen years with partner Jude Arney, while married to Lois living, 1st in 1949 with mother at 215 north Maple, then 1950 at 1800 Hazel street, lastly in the well built McElroy home at 1301 Grand avenue, raising a family before removing to south Tulsa, Tulsa county, Oklahoma in 1958, where he once lived at 3635 Lakewood, 5782 Harvard Ct, dying 2013 residing at 6849 south Toledo avenue apartment. ~ 1941, Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, with Ilda, 311 north Garrison avenue, Red Horse Service Station, reportedly year of separation from 1st wife ~ 1950 Arthur & Betty J on Columbia. ~ 1953, Columbia street, with 2nd wife Betty J (former secretary for B & G Construction Company). ~ 1956, 315 east Central avenue with 2nd wife Betty J, Frosty Mug Drive-in, h 409 Olive. ~ 1959 219 north Garrison avenue, Burger N' Shake. Death: while last residing in Noel, McDonald county, Missouri, buried near parents at Versailles, Morgan county, Missouri. Father: Oscar Albert Boots b: 21 MAY 1878 Iowa.
