He died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital in New Albany. He was born in Floyds Knobs on Dec. 24, 1928, the son of the late Arthur A. Bierman Sr. and Lillian (Banet) Bierman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University and was retired from General Electric Company in Louisville. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany, the American Legion River City Post 42 in Floyds Knobs and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Julia C. (Beach) Bierman; two daughters, Carol J. McLean and husband, Howard and Annette M. Lipps and husband, Artie, both of New Albany; two sons, Gregory A. Bierman, D.D.S., Mooresville, Ind. and Gary J. Bierman Sr. and wife, Barbara, Floyds Knobs; three brothers, Merrel, Lewis and Frank Bierman Sr.; a sister, Patsy Egler; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marcellus Bierman. Visitation at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, and a prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16.
