Description	:	In Memory of Arthur Sessler, age 95, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John H. and Johanna (Meyer) Sessler, on May 4, 1924, rural Butler County, Aplington, Iowa. He received his education in town at the Aplington School. Art worked with his father as a farm hand until marriage. Read More	In Memory of Arthur Sessler, age 95, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John H. and Johanna (Meyer) Sessler, on May 4, 1924, rural Butler County, Aplington, Iowa. He received his education in town at the Aplington School. Art worked with his father as a farm hand until marriage. On August 14, 1948, Art was united in marriage with Lavola Grace Maifeld at the Dumont Reformed Church, Dumont, Iowa. They made their home and farmed on his Uncle Sander Sessler’s farm north of Aplington until 1960. They purchased his parent’s farm north of Aplington, which was the original Sessler Family farm of 160 acres his great grandparents farmed back in 1875, that became a century farm. Arthur also raised and specialized in Duroc Breeding Hogs, milked cows, lots of livestock, horses, ducks and chickens, an old time farm. They farmed until retiring in 1985 when they moved to their home on North Johnson St. In his retirement years he loved working and fixing tractors and mowing lawn. They moved to the current home in Parkersburg on Wemple Street. Art was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, rural, Aplington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on small engines and mowing lawns. Art took great pride in taking and teaching his grandchildren to fish. He seemed to know of every local fishing hole in Iowa. His favorite and secret fishing spot was on the Shell Rock River, near Greene, Iowa. Through the years he also enjoyed fishing on Brown Lake, Lake Osakis and a number of other lakes also in Minnesota, and closer to home at Beeds Lake where they often had picnics. He very much loved spending time with his family. Art passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Unity Point Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by wife, Lavola Sessler in 2016; great granddaughter, Hailey Peyton; brother, Andrew Sessler; and four sisters, Irene Walterman, Dorothy Seehausen, Ruth Sessler, and Anna Mae Rogers. Art is survived by three children, Bonnie (Cindy) Sessler of Janesville, IA Marilyn (Ken) Wyant of Waterloo, IA, and Dennis (Teresa) Sessler of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Dawn (Adam) Novak, Brad (Malea) Wyant, Jennifer (Brandon) Davenport, Angela (Jason) Mallon, Sarah (Alex) Wedgeworth, Jason Sessler; nine great grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Hannah, Corbin, Carsten, Caelor, Austin, Aiden, and Ellie. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019, at the Bethel Reformed Church with burial in the Bethel Reformed Cemetery both in rural Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
