His funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, with Pastor Jeffrey Wallace officiating. Burial follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Carol Fiedler and the congregation will sing "Just as I Am", "Abide with Me", "How great thou Art", and "Nearer, My God, to Thee". Ushers will be Spencer Frank and Cliff Bieber. Visitation will be at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, from 3:00-9:00 PM Thursday. Arthur Charles Frank, son of Bertha (Krause) and William Frank, was born at Aberdeen on August 2, 1921. He was raised north of Java, attending Sunshine Country School in Highland School District north of Java. He moved with his grandparents into Java in 1935 and graduated with the Java High School Class of 1939. Following his graduation, he attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD for one year. He then joined the National Youth Administration (NYA) for which he worked at Lake Hiddenwood, Pierre, SD, and Sand Lake. Art served his country in the Army Air Corps, being inducted Dec. 20, 1941. He was stationed various places stateside and also in the Philippines. Following his honorable discharge on December 6, 1945, he returned to Java and began his life's work as a general carpenter. Art and his brother, Wes, also owned and operated the Grand Theater in Java for a number of years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, where he served on the council, and the Selby-Java VFW. He was also on the Java Town Board, serving many years as chairman. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, reading, and playing cards. Art is survived by one brother-Wesley F. Frank of Java; two half- brothers: Curtis Frank of Coos Bay, OR and Earl Frank of Java. He was preceded in death by his father on April 9, 1972 and his mother on January 31, 1923. Honorary bearers will be all of Art's friends and relatives. Casketbearers will be Clyde Frank of Rapid City, SD, Steve Breitbach and Tyler Breitbach of Fargo, ND, Douglas Frank and Logan Frank of Selby, SD, and David Frank of Mandan, ND. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
