Description	:	OBITUARY: Arthur C. Schmitt, 74, of Roscoe died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in St. John's Lutheran Church in Hosmer. The Rev. Brad Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery in Hosmer with Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle in charge of arrangements. Arthur C. Schmitt was born Sept. 7, 1924, to Lydia (Himmerich) and Fred Schmitt at a farm two miles northwest of Roscoe. At age 2, he moved with his family to a farm they purchased six miles west and four miles south of Roscoe. This is where he grew up. He attended Cloyd Valley rural school and Roscoe High School, graduating in 1943. Following his schooling, he farmed with his dad. When his dad died in 1964, he purchased the farm. He farmed until 1979, when he retired and moved into Roscoe. This is where he lived until earlier this month, when he moved to the Bowdle Nursing Home. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hosmer and served on the Cloyd Valley Township Board for several years. Survivors include three brothers, Alvin E. Schmitt of Roscoe, Marvin E. Schmitt of Billings, Mont., and Alton E. Schmitt of Kearney, Neb.; and one sister, Leontina Whitbeck of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents. Casketbearers will be Tim Schmitt of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jim Whitbeck, Chris Schmitt and Tom Fox, all of Billings and Glen Schmitt and Neil Scherr, both of Roscoe. Contributor: Robin Bentz (48459666) •
