Read More	------------------------- Arthur "Archie" Clement Silveria January 12, 1920 ~ December 7, 2007 SOLEDAD – Arthur "Archie" Clement Silveria, 87, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Archie was born January 12, 1920, in Lemoore, California to John and Carrie Silveria. He grew up on his family's dairies in Lemoore, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Chualar and Gonzales. The family then settled on a ranch in the Mission District outside of Soledad and began farming. Archie eventually took over the family ranching business. His farmland surrounds the Soledad Mission which always had a special place in his heart. Throughout the years, he volunteered at the Mission's annual fundraisers and supported all efforts for its restoration. Archie not only had a passion for farming but also for cattle ranching. He enjoyed his "Diamond O Hill Ranch" which he built from the ground up and was his pride and joy. There, he enjoyed tending his small herd, and hosting branding parties, calamari feeds, and his class reunions. (Archie was a graduate of Gonzales High School, Class of 1937.) In the past, Archie was a proprietor of the Soledad Bowling Alley and Watering Trough, where he enjoyed entertaining many of his friends, hosting polenta feeds and serving up his special recipe of beef stew. In years past, Archie assisted with many chicken and tri-tip barbecues for various service organizations in his community. In addition to farming and ranching, he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips in the Arroyo Seco as well as deep sea fishing off Moss Landing. He was a past member of the Soledad Lions Club and was a member of the Salinas Elks Lodge #614. One of his favorite activities was attending the Salinas California Rodeo, which he had done every year for as long as we can remember. He proudly served on the committee for the California Rodeo Association. Archie is survived by his four children: Gwen (Dante) Matteucci, Michael (Cherryl) Silveria, Bill Silveria, and Patty Morasci; four grandchildren: Marc Matteucci, Jorie Silva, Ben Morasci, and Amanda Forrest; granddaughter of the heart, Lori Lazzarini; his loving sister, Mary Bianchi (Bob); and many wonderful and caring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie; his granddaughter, Michele; his brothers, John and Edward; his sisters, Evelyn Salmina and Alice Vaughan; his parents, Carrie Mattos Silveria and John Machado Silveria. Archie had many wonderful friends throughout The Valley. He will be remembered dearly by his family and friends alike for his generosity, his playful sense of humor, and by always being ready to lend a helping hand. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Soledad Mission, 36641 Fort Romie Road, Soledad, CA 93960. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Our Lady of Solitude, 235 Main Street in Soledad, with burial at Soledad District Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Soledad Mission Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 575, Soledad, CA 93960, or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Struve and Laporte Chapel.
