Art was born February 26, 1936 in Great Falls, MT, the second son of Sulo E. and Dorothy E. Karjala. He attended Geyser High School in Geyser, MT. He grew up on a ranch near Geyser and was employed by the Burlington Railroad during the summer months. He graduated in May, 1954 and enlisted in the USAF. He spent 20 years in the service. T/Sgt... Art was born February 26, 1936 in Great Falls, MT, the second son of Sulo E. and Dorothy E. Karjala. He attended Geyser High School in Geyser, MT. He grew up on a ranch near Geyser and was employed by the Burlington Railroad during the summer months. He graduated in May, 1954 and enlisted in the USAF. He spent 20 years in the service. T/Sgt Karjala retired on July 1, 1974 with the 3423rd Instructor Squadron, Lowry AFB. Upon receiving an honorable discharge he was also given the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding Meritorious Service. Arthur married Sharilyn Buman on December 30, 1965 in Denver, CO. They had one son. He was a member of the following organizations: Past cvommander of Post #168, Thomas Little American Legion, Pawnee City; Veterans fo Foreign Wars #5289, Pawnee City. He was a recent member of the Bear Creek Motorcycle Club, Beatrice; Gold Wing Road Riders Assn., Phoenix, AZ; American Assn. of Uniformed Services and Fairview Gold Club, Pawnee City. His greatest pleasures were hunting, fishing, golfing, motorcycle cruising, playing cards and cribbage with his relatives and friends. His association with the American Legion was his greatest priority and rarely did he miss a meeting for helping with coaching, Christmas candy or films for the youth. He is survived by his wife, Sharilyn, his son, Scott, Beatrice, NE; one step-daughter; his mother, Dorothy Taskila, Great Falls, MT; brother, Howard, Panama City, FL; half-sisters, Bonnie Jenkins, Great Falls; Teresa Buckner, Siler City, NC; half-brother, David Taskila, Spokane, WA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters, Barbara Gomke and Karen Armstrong. Services were held October 10, 1996, at the United Methodist Church, Pawnee City.
