Death was attributed to cancer. He had undergone brain surgery at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines Nov. 25, 1985, and this was followed by four weeks of therapy at McFarland Clinic in Ames and Mary Greeley Medical Center. Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ministers will preside at services at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada Friday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jocko Mindeman, Steve Shickell, Dan Richardson, Floyd "Shorty" Hage, Jim Shuey and Dave Lilland. Honorary bearers will be Paul McNertney, John Hamilton and Gene Cagwin. Mr. Erwine was born Oct. 5, 1912 at Harwood, N.D. He moved at a young age to Artesian, S.D., where his family farmed and Floyd graduated from Artesian High School. He attended the Methodist Church in Artesian. The family moved to Lamoni, Ia., in 1931, where they farmed. He married Louise Strecker at Lamoni in 1936. Three sons -- John, Terry and Roger -- were born to them. Mr. Erwine served as 4-H club leader for nine years in Decatur County. He sold out the farming business in 1949 and began working as tractor mechanic for International Harvester in Lamoni. In 1962 the family moved to Ames and he worked as mechanic for Armstrong Tractor Co. and as mechanic for Ames Central Services. He and Louise moved to Nevada in 1979. Mr. Erwine enjoyed raising a garden and fruit trees. He valued the many friends he had made in Nevada. He is survived by his wife and three sons, and eight grandchildren in Liberty, Mo., Osceola, Mo., Ankeny, Ia., and Charleston, S.C. His father, Arthur, mother, Elizabeth, sister, Violet, and young brothers preceded him in death. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society at the State Bank and Trust Co. in Nevada.
