Arthur Grafsgaard was born May 24, 1913 on a farm in Pilot Mound Township near McVille, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Grafsgaard (Anna Petterson). He attended Paradise rural school, and McHenry High School and Valley City State College. June 10, 1941, Mr. Grafsgaard was married to Laura Naggatz of Fairmont at Hankinson. Both taught rural schools in Paradise and Columbia Townships. In 1955 he and his family moved to Medora, where he taught high school five years. He then began teaching at nearby Fryburg school where Laura Grafsgaard also taught. He spent the last 14 years of his life teaching upper elementary grades at Fryburg. He was also basketball coach at Medora and Fryburg. During summers, Mr. Grafsgaard worked for St. Paul and Marine Co. as a hail adjuster for 30 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, having been confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church. At the time of his death he was president of the church council and mayor of Medora. Mr. Grafsgaard is survived by his wife, Laura, his mother, Mrs. Anna Bergh of Fargo; a son, Curtis Grafsgaard of Laramie, Wyo., daughter, Judith Grafsgaard of New York City; one grandson; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Alice) Olson, Fargo; Mrs. Henry (Norma) Odland, McHenry; Mrs. Odes (Esther) Scanson, Grace City. Interment was at McHenry Cemetery. (Evans-Knott Funeral Home) Published in the Foster County Independent, Carrington, North Dakota October 30, 1974.
