Description	:	Arthur Gustav “Bud” Kaiser, 88, passed away on February 19, 2015 and the Winner Long Term Care facility. Bud was born January 30, 1927, at home in Millboro, SD to Jacob Jr and Olga Fredrick Kaiser, who whre German immigrants from Russsia, he was their fifth son. Read More	Arthur Gustav “Bud” Kaiser, 88, passed away on February 19, 2015 and the Winner Long Term Care facility. Bud was born January 30, 1927, at home in Millboro, SD to Jacob Jr and Olga Fredrick Kaiser, who whre German immigrants from Russsia, he was their fifth son. Bud was born with cataracts on both eyes, which severely limited his vision for much of his life. Bud’s mother passed away of tuberculosis in 1930, when Bud was three years old. He often commented that he, “missed her his whole life.” Jacob hired housekeepers to help with the boys for a short time. Bud remembered one woman, Rose Pope, and believed she was responsible for giving him his nickname. Bud attended rural school through the 8th grade. Like many during that time, he left school to help on the family farm. He was proud that many years later he obtained his G.E.D. Bud left home in his teens and worked as a farm hand in Nebraska and South Dakota. In 1954, he went to work for the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation as a field engineer. He worked on building roads and bridges in Central South Dakota. In 1960, he was married to Idalee (Johnson) Showalter, and adopted her daughter, Nancy. Two children, Kevin, and Lisa, were born to the couple. Bud retired from the State in 1987. Throughout their lives, Bud and Idalee enjoyed camping, bird watching, square dancing, traveling, gardening and collecting western antiques. Bud was a car lover and once kept an extensive list of every vehicle he had ever owned. He also enjoyed learning about his German heritage and experimented with brewing his own beer. In 1998, Idalee died suddenly of leukemia, leaving a gaping hole in Bud’s life. His health soon began to deteriorate and he moved to assisted living and later to the nursing home. Bud was known for his sense of humor and love of socializing and having a good time. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy, and Vobr, , and Eileen ; brother-in law, Walter , sisters-in-law Charlotte “Nikki”; Verlene , and Violet ; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Edna Wicker and Leona Ellis, brothers Irvin, Fredrick “Fritz”, Henry “Heinie”, and Ruben. Funeral Service will be at 2PM Monday, February 23, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Winner. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22 from 5-7PM at the United Methodist Church in Winner.
