Description	:	Arthur Hans Koehrsen was born on a farm north of Walnut on October 14, 1904. He was the son of John and Bertha Fischer Koehrsen. He was one of five children in the family. The family moved into Walnut in 1917 and Art attended school in Walnut and graduated with the Class of 1924. Read More	Arthur Hans Koehrsen was born on a farm north of Walnut on October 14, 1904. He was the son of John and Bertha Fischer Koehrsen. He was one of five children in the family. The family moved into Walnut in 1917 and Art attended school in Walnut and graduated with the Class of 1924. He worked in the family garage in Walnut and also worked on a farm until 1937 when he and his father began to operate the Clover Farm Grocery Store in Walnut. Art enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served until the spring of 1943 when he received a medical discharge. In 1943 he was united in marriage to Elsie Kuhn Hoffmann and they consolidated their two stores into the Hoffmann and Koehrsen Store. The business continued until 1963 at which time they sold the store and he became a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1973. He was very active in community organizations having belonged to the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, 50 years of Community Club membership, 12 years as a city council member, 12 years as a member of the church board in the Peace United Church of Christ and being a member of both the Amvets and the American Legion and the Walnut Volunteer Fire Department. Elsie passed away on September 2, 1979. Art lived for several years at the Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut until becoming a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Art passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs on March 17, 1992. He had attained the age of 87 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elsie, one son, Dale Hoffmann, and three brothers; Alvin, Herbert and Lawrence. Services were held Thursday, March 19, 1992 at 2 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut with Pastor Neil Schroeder and Pastor Steven Gronseth officiating. Music was provided by organist Mrs. James Storjohann who played "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Interment was at the Walnut Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by the Walnut Amvets and Legion and Masonic Graveside Services by Grove Lodge #492. Bearers included Robert Jensen, Clifferd Fischer, Russell Haworth, Donald Nielsen, Orvie Fischer and Tom Heilig. (Walnut Bureau, Thursday, March 26, 1992, p. 4)
