Mr. Flaugher, who sold The Enquirer at Sixth and Vine Sts. for the last 38 of his 93 years, was a familiar figure to hosts of Cincinnatians who didn't know him by name. On the coldest of nights, as on the hottest, he would take up his stand in the entrance of a jewelry store with his pile of papers. His customers were also his friends, and many who came to buy would tarry to have a few words with "Shorty." HE WAS EVER READY with a quip. If a friend asked on some sub-zero night if he were all right, he would answer, "Not bad. But the mosquitoes are bothering." Mr. Flaugher was born Jan. 14, 1874, in Flemingsburg, Ky., and worked at a variety of jobs before going with The Enquirer in 1933. he was a member of a section crew on a railroad, was a stationary engineer in a brickyard and worked for a time in a shoe factory in Ripley, Ohio. In the 17 years just prior to his coming to The Enquirer he was a lathe work inspector in the R. K. LeBlond Machine Tool Co., Madison and Edwards Rds. HE ENJOYED GOOD HEALTH until he suffered a fall three weeks ago in his apartment at 511 Broadway. He was taken to General Hospital where he died Sunday. Physicians believed death came from a clot resulting from his fracture. He had appeared to be recovering from a pinning operation on his hip. He leaves a son, George Flaugher, and the son's wife, Ruth, Southgate, Ky., and a nephew, Gaylord Flaugher, Dayton, Ohio. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Kennedy-Stevens Funeral Home, Bethel, Ohio. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
