Celebration of Life Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Oakland Cemetery south of Shannon City. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Arthur Hensley Gladfelder, son of Lucy Velira (Perkins) Gladfelder and Arthur Kile Gladfelder, was born on January 9, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Lineville High School in Lineville, Iowa. On Sept. 13, 1958, Art married Marilyn Kay Simpson in Altoona, Iowa. They lived in the Des Moines and later Ankeny, while Art worked for the Library Binding Service for over 30 years. In 1990, they moved to a farm south of Shannon City, where they farmed until 2013. Art also drove a school bus for the East Union School District for over 20 years. Art was a former member of the Ankeny Golf and Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Lynn (husband Gary) and a son, Rick (wife Donna); three grandchildren, Morgan, Aaron (wife Kim) and Kyle; two great-granddaughters, Autumn and Kaylee; and a sister, Jessie Mae (husband Dick). Art was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy, Charles Aaron Gladfelder, and a sister, Margie Louisa Clement.
