Description	:	Arthur J. Nelson, known to ail as "Artie" was born to James and Marie (Larsen) Nelsen on June 2, 1899 in Newell, Iowa being one of six children. He died February 26, 1976 at the Buena Vista County Hospital, Storm Lake at the age of 76 years. Cause of death was heart failure. Artie, who lived his entire life in Newell was baptised and confirmed in the Nain Lutheran Church. He attended the Newell School, graduating in 1918. Artie, who lived his entire life in Newell was baptised and confirmed in the Nain Lutheran Church. He attended the Newell School, graduating in 1918. On February 25, 1925 he was united in marriage to Opal Lindberg. To this union one daughter, Mary Lou was born. Artie was a loving husband and father. Artie's love of sports, which carried on through his entire lifetime began in school where he played basketball and after graduation played on the town basketball team. He was also an avid golfer, being one of the persons instrumental in starting the golf course in Newell. Artie was a familiar golfer on Newell's course for many years, only giving up the game in recent years due to health reasons. His occupation was that of a rural mail carrier, a position he had for 46 1/2 years, retiring on Dec. 30, 1965. He was also a painter as a second occupation. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Opal on Dec. 2, 1967 and two brothers, Fred and Dr. Hart Nelsen. He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Mary Lou Cook and husband of Nemaha, one sister Laura Williams of Newell and-two brothers, Noah and Axel of St. Peter, Minnesota and their families; and three grandchildren, Debra, David and Brenda Cook as well as many other relatives. Artie iived his life to its fullest and will be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends, but especially by his grandchildren whom he loved deeply and who held a very special love for him.
