DeJong, age 78 of Everson, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Born in Boyden, Iowa on July 12, 1927, Art was the son of Joe and Elizabeth (VandeGarde) DeJong. He grew up in Iowa and was married to Margaret Dooyema in Edgerton, Minnesota on July 12, 1947. Art and Margaret moved with their family to the Sumas area from Harrisburg, South Dakota in 1960 and together they operated a dairy farm on the Telegraph Road. Following retirement, Art continued helping on the farm whenever possible. Spending time with his family brought him great joy and camping trips were especially memorable. He always looked forward to visiting family and friends in the Midwest. Art was a member of the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church and the Washington State Dairy Federation. Besides his parents, Mr. DeJong was preceded in death by brothers Dutch (Gerard) and Jim and sisters Cornelia Osterkamp and Geneva Bennet. Visitation hours will be from 1 to 8 pm on Monday, Jan. 2, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 10:15 am in Nooksack Cemetery followed by funeral services at 11:00 am in the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church, 602 E 2nd St., Nooksack, with Rev. Church Kleinhesselink officiating. Memorials may be made to the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church, P. O. Box 4267, Nooksack, WA 98276; Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 800 E.
