He grew up in rural Redfield and attended Redfield Country School. He served in the United States Army, as a Corporal, during the Korean War, from 1951-1953. Art married Janet Carrico June 15, 1954 in Redfield. They lived and farmed near Redfield. Janet died in 1982 and Art continued to farm until 1993, before moving into Redfield. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a lifetime member of the Paul A. Schleher VFW Post #2755. He also was on the FHA board and was a past council member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. Art is survived by his daughters: Brenda Grabinski of Redfield and her son Jay and Susan Binger of Tulare, SD and her children: Lindsey, Megan and Kristen, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers: Darwin Jessen of Redfield; Jerry (Carol) Jessen of Norfolk, NE; Arlen (Diane) Jessen of Tulare; and Richard (Cathy) Jessen of Tulare; and his sister Rosemary (Dick) Tubandt of Springfield, IA; and his sisters-in-law: Betty Betten, Audrey Newman and Evelyn Schalkle and his brothers-in-law: Fred Carrico and Richard Carrico. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, his son-in-law John Binger, his sister-in-law Sharol Jessen and his brother Ray.
