Arthur “Art” Laverne Allen, was born in Douglas Township, Webster County, Iowa on February 8, 1930, the son of Elmer Elliott Allen and Dolly (Gordon) McDonald. In 1948, Art enlisted into the United States Navy and served honorably during the Korean War until his discharge in 1953. On April 6, 1955 he was untied in marriage to Phyllis Marie Miller in Fremont, Nebraska. Art worked at Bendix Company in Martell, California as a plywood plant worker until 1975. In 1978, Art and Phyllis moved back to Boone. He was a member of the Boone Moose Lodge 104, Clampers and Boone VFW 817. Art loved camping, drinking beer, fishing, walking and spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents, Elmer and Dolly; a grandson, John; five sisters and two brothers. Art is survived by his three sons, Bill Allen of Des Moines, Richard Allen and wife, Helen of Nebraska and Stephen Allen of Ankeny; three daughters, Kathy Allen and husband, Jeff of Pine Grove, California, Patty Hasstedt and husband, Chris, of Boone and Mary Ingram and husband, Brian, of Boone; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister, Etta Mae Daniels of Pilot Mound and many nieces and nephews.
