Description	:	Arthur Leslie Brackett (95) was born in Birch Tree, MO to Elisha and Pearl Wellington Brackett, however the family moved to Winona, MO a few years later when Fishertown was a thriving lumber center. Our father worked un the planning mill until the operation closed. Arthur (always known as Rube) has lived the greater part of his life at Winona. His first school was in Fishertown, followed by Mount Zion and Winona school. Read More	Arthur Leslie Brackett (95) was born in Birch Tree, MO to Elisha and Pearl Wellington Brackett, however the family moved to Winona, MO a few years later when Fishertown was a thriving lumber center. Our father worked un the planning mill until the operation closed. Arthur (always known as Rube) has lived the greater part of his life at Winona. His first school was in Fishertown, followed by Mount Zion and Winona school. When asked why he dropped out of high school, it was not because he disliked school, but because he needed to get a job to help his parents. Arthur is survived by one sister, Mayme Brackett Fenwick and husband, James; and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews who have kept in touch. Deceased family members are parents, brothers Roy, Othur, and Frank and sister Francis (Fanne) Barry. Rube earned his living by hard work. He farmed, worked in the timber in Washington and Oregon, did construction work on the Moffot railroad tunnel in Colorado and worked several years in California for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. as a member of a construction crew. Before his retirement at the age of 72 Rube worked for the Winona Post Co. for 20 years. Rube was always there for family members, friends and neighbors who needed help, yet he appreciated help when he needed it. Arthur passed away Aug 23, 1997 at Ozark Nursing Center in West Plains, MO at the age of 95 years. Rube was a very special brother. Graveside funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Winona with Rev. Jim Doyle officiating. Visitation was Monday morning at 10:00 am at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona.
